Give a device model and firmware version, and I can help you track down such a method, or quite possibly another if such a thing doesn't exist for your device. you plug your phone in, turn on USB debugging, and click a button in Heimdall. and the work is already done for you in that scenario. that shouldn't wipe data, depending on what gets flashed(I can't speak for everything else, but flashing only in the PDA slot definitely won't wipe data, since that's mostly just /system).
I'm not sure what version of Galaxy S4 you have, because you didn't mention it, but for any version aside from the Verizon and AT&T ones, you can probably find a pre-rooted ODIN flashable firmware and flash that with Heimdall. unfortunately, that leaves the few Android users who also have Macs out quite a bit. I imagine much of the reason for that is because Android devs aren't usually Mac users average people who buy into Apple buy into everything they make.
